The Mission of the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists (AAIM) is to prevent deaths and injuries caused by intoxicated or distracted motorists and to assist impaired driving crash victims and their families in Illinois.
We believe that being under the influence of alcohol, or any other drug, does not absolve one of accountability for ones actions; rather, the lack of accountability develops a climate of irresponsibility - and leads to an increase in the DUI problem.
We believe that the law enforcement agencies and the judicial system must be sensitive to the trauma of the victims of drunk/drugged driving in order to avoid causing still further emotional injury and to guard against inequity in the disposition of DUI cases.
We know that drunk/drugged driving is a complex social problem, and no single simple solution exists. Rather, a multifaceted solution encompassing many elements must include elements of education to heighten public awareness; formal education in primary and secondary schools, deterrence through law enforcement; and rehabilitation. Such an approach will require the coordination of public agencies and private organizations as never before.
