Mission Statement

Protect and restore the watershed ecosystems of the West to ensure river health, biodiversity, and clean water for present and future generations.

Description

Two whitewater rafting guides who had witnessed the degradation of many of Oregon’s most cherished rivers founded the Pacific Rivers in 1987. Pacific Rivers is focused on protecting watersheds to keep water clean and rivers healthy for fish, wildlife, and people. Our mission is to protect and restore the watershed ecosystems of the West to ensure river health, biodiversity, and clean water for present and future generations.

Currently, our conservation priorities are: 1) protect, strengthen and expand protection of watersheds on federal forests in the Northwest, largely by maintaining the aquatic protections of the Northwest Forest Plan; and 2) reform the Oregon Forest Practices Act to make logging on state and private forests in Oregon more protective of human and aquatic health, at least comparable to protections in neighboring states.
