The mission of Catholic Charities is to promote unity among all persons by developing caring communities. The Catholic Charities Southwest Queens Friendly Visiting Program carries out this mission by providing services that promote dignity, independence and respect. Our goal is to create an environment that encourages physical and emotional stability to assist people 60 years and older to attain quality of life while living in their community.

Description

The Southwest Queens Friendly Visiting Program is a support service for isolated seniors living in the community. Our program is designed to provide support and companionship to these older adults on a regular basis.The program provides seniors with visits in their own homes; this helps them maintain social contact and integrates them more effectively into their community. Each senior is matached with a friendly volunteer who will visit once a week at a mutually agreeable time. Efforts are made to match seniors with volunteers who share similar interests. The volunteer visitor provides weekly support through visiting, reading, shoppiing and other activities identified by the senior.
