The mission of Students Run LA is to challenge at-risk secondary students to experience the benefits of goal-setting, character development, adult mentoring and improved health by providing them with a truly life-changing experience: The training for and completion of the LA Marathon .
SRLA is an after-school mentoring and physical fitness program for at-risk middle and high school students in Los Angeles. The program prepares them to complete the Los Angeles Marathon each year. While running is the core activity of the program, SRLA students learn discipline, perseverance, character building, and how to set and achieve goals.

Because the results are spectacular:
o More than 95% of the students who start the marathon, finish it
o More than 95% of the seniors who run the marathon graduate high school
External evaluations show that students participating in SRLA:
o Enjoy school and learning
o Think school is not a waste of time
o Are sure they will succeed when they set a goal
o Are able to deal with their problems
o Make better plans for after high school
o Think that teachers believe they can learn
At 175 middle and high schools along with community sites throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area, including:
Hollywood San Fernando Valley
Downtown Orange County
East Los Angeles San Bernardino County
West Los Angeles South Bay
South Los Angeles
3 to 4 days per week and weekends from September through June.
