Mission Statement
Our mission and vision are to provide an arts-based, developmentally appropriate education that nurtures the whole child: Head, Heart, and Hand. We aspire to create safe, healthy and beautiful learning environments where academic achievement is strengthened as students cultivate meaningful connections to their intellectual, physical and creative capacities. A deep connection to nature will be supported through the use of high-quality, natural materials as well as seasonal studies and outdoor activities enjoyed in our beautiful mountain setting. The school family will reach out to the larger community through parent education programs, public performances and seasonal celebrations.
Description
Mountain Phoenix Community School is the first and only free, Waldorf-inspired, public charter school in Colorado. There is a heavy emphasis on developmentally appropriate standards rather than an age-dicatated curriculum. It is located in the small community of Coal Creek Canyon, about 20 miles outside of Boulder. It is currently housed in a renovated home, with three multi-aged classrooms.
