Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
We ask travelers already going to emerging countries to take reading glasses and hand deliver them to artisans and others who need them to do up close work.
Half a billion people in emerging countries have difficulty seeing their work up close. How can you thread a needle or hit a nail squarely or see a rash on your child's neck if your near vision is blurry? Forty million Americans a year travel to those countries. What if each traveler brought a few readers along and hand-delivered them to people who need them? It works beautifully on many levels: Because the traveler is already going, distribution requires no global footprint. Hand-delivering the glasses assures they get given to someone who needs them and don't wind up on the black market.
Reading Glass Project is made up entirely of volunteers. No one is paid. 98% of all profits go to getting glasses to those who need them.
