Mission Statement

Heart of Compassion is dedicated to demonstrating God's love-both spiritually and physically-through the distribution of life essentials for the total person (body, mind, and spirit).

To be a resource center for the needy, providing food, clothing, and general merchandise.

To network with other ministries, helping them provide resources for those in need in their own communities.

To assist those most in need, including battered and abused women, single parents, seniors, rehabilitation centers, child care centers and veterans, as well as missions in areas such as Mexico, Panama, Venezuela and Cambodia.

To develop training programs, equipping other churches in the effective distribution of food..

To become an emergency family assistance center, providing emergency resources to families in crisis.

To conduct monthly citywide crusades demonstrating God's love in a tangible way, by providing food, clothing, medical assistance, counselors, prayer teams, bands, games, toys, and Spanish and English Bibles to nourish the spiritual and physical needs of the community.

To fulfill our ultimate vision, transcending the distribution of food and merchandise to encompass all that is implied by "helping those in need." In many ways, this broader mission has already begun, and is embodied in our acronym:

Housing Occupational Training and Community Development
through the Kingdom of God .

Heart of Compassion is a 501C non-profit food bank and resource center for those in need. From its warehouse in Montebello, California, HOC distributes approximately 80,000 pounds of food, and general merchandise every week to other groups that distribute to needy individuals and families. In addition, churches, charities, and other community-based organizations send trucks and vans from as far away as San Diego; they wait in line to load up with food and other life essentials to distribute among the hungry and the poor.

The name Heart of Compassion is taken from the Bible. When Jesus Christ saw that many of his followers were hungry, tired and without shelter, his heart was filled with compassion for the people, and he provided for their needs. Committed to sharing that same "gospel of hope," Heart Of Compassion, directed by Pastor Eric Tietze, is dedicated to making a difference by helping fulfill both the spiritual and physical needs of the community.

First time volunteering at this organization. They have provided Thanksgiving lunch, and other free services for the people in need, e.g. hair cut, which is really good. As for volunteer perspective, there is a problem with lack of instruction from organizers. Shopping carts that filled with food for people in need isn't enough, making the rest of the volunteer standing around doing nothing. This year's volunteer has way too many young people from high school which made it difficult to team with since they will stop and do nothing without giving any instruction.
