Description
HOBY Alaska's signature program is an annual Leadership Seminar which provides a premiere leadership experience for 40-50 of the most outstanding youth from across the state. 100% of the planning and operation for our seminar is completed by committed volunteers, and we are currently looking for individuals to serve in key leadership roles or to assist others in small ways that make a big difference! The seminar is scheduled for May 14-17, and will be hosted on the Alaska Pacific University campus in Anchorage. About the Program: Students are selected to attend the HOBY Seminar by their high school counselor or principal, who identifies students they believe to have outstanding leadership potential. Students attending the Seminar engage in an intense learning environment which will allow them to interact with our state's leaders and explore multiple forms and styles of leadership. HOBY's dynamic, hands-on educational approach develops participants' critical thinking, team-building, and goal-setting skills. A hallmark of our program is a leadership for service challenge which urges students to complete a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer service in their communities over the year following the seminar. Many of our students ambitiously exceed this goal, which fosters a commitment to use their leadership skills in service to others
