Mission Statement
The List Project to Resettle Iraqi Allies is a project of the Tides Center. The List Project is a non-profit operating in the U.S., founded with the belief that the United States Government has a clear and urgent moral obligation to resettle to safety Iraqis who are imperiled due to their affiliation with the United States of America.
Description
We are the first comprehensive organizational effort to honor the sacrifice of these Iraqi refugees. TLP has two pillars: It has two pillars: 1. Help as many of the hundreds of Iraqis on our constantly-expanding List make it to the United States through a groundbreaking partnership with three top law firms and nearly 200 attorneys. 2. Provide a "cushion" for resettled Iraqis upon their arrival to America by, helping them integrate, defray emergency expenses, and find meaningful employment. Never before has there been such a vast group of refugees with access to their own pro bono representation by top U.S. law firms. Our partnership with domestic NGOs will maximize their integration so that they can be productive and successful in their new lives here in the U.S. The project hopes to contribute to a fundamental paradigm-shift in the way at-risk refugees can be assisted. On its first birthday, TLP announced Netroots.thelistproject.org, which is an engine for social activism. In the first 24 hours, nearly 100 Americans joined and formed 7 chapters across the country...with Netroots, you can be an advocate, you can help sponsor an Iraqi family that has made it to the U.S., or help raise funds for the Project & the Iraqis. We are extending an invite to the Idealist community, and to those who want to take ownership on this critical issue. In the words of someone who recently wrote, "the plight of our Iraqi employees is the first issue in the war I feel I understand clearly enough to take action on."
