Mission Statement

Lutheran Family Services of Virginia is a non-profit agency with service locations throughout the state of Virginia. From its beginning in 1888 as the Lutheran Orphan's Home of the South to the present day organization incorporated in 1982, LFS has been committed to serving children and strengthening family life. LFS is able to fulfill this commitment by providing loving temporary or permanent homes for children in foster care; helps families seeking to adopt through foster care internationally or in the U.S.; and strengthens families through community-based services throughout the state of Virginia.

Description

Our agency has recently launched a new program in the Hampton Roads area, called MentorMatch. This is a volunteer mentoring program that link children between the ages of 8-18 who are involved with the juvenile justice and foster care systems with an adult that can serve as a positive role model. The individuals served in this program must be willing to commit to a minimum of 2 hours per week for a year. A positive role model can make a big difference in a child's life. When a child has someone to nurture them and enhance positive growth they are able to become productive adults.
