Mission Statement

NAMI Maine is a membership organization representing people with mental illness and their families. The organization provides support, education, and advocacy in order to improve the lives of all people affected by mental illness. .

Description

NAMI Maine has a help line, programs for law enforcement and correctional officers, an in-school screening program for mental health, substance abuse, and suicidality, a juvenile mentoring program for youth who have criminal justice system involvement, and a statewide network of support and education programs. Training is available to help families and people with mental illness learn how to cope. NAMI Maine is also involved in advocating, both for individuals who need help negotiating the mental health system and sytem-wide to reduce stigma and improve service delivery.
