Mission Statement
The mission of the Disaster Animal Response Team (DART) is to promote the safety and well-being of all animals who are or may be adversely affected during a disaster and to respond to the needs of those who provide emergency and supportive care to animals during all phases of a disaster. This is accomplished in 3 ways: 1) Preparedness, 2) Awareness, and 3) Response.
Description
Bay Area DART (Disaster Animal Response Team) is a team of volunteers focused on all aspects of dealing with animals in disaster situations. We are brought together for our love of animals and have backgrounds in animal and non-animal related fields.
We work with emergency responders, humane associations/shelters, and other disaster volunteers. We strive to educate the public to be prepared while furthering our own education through various training and networking activities.
DART is a program of the Humane Society of the United States and is a non-profit organization comprised solely of volunteers. When a disaster strikes, DART members move quickly to assess the damage and evaluate the impact on animals, and then provide the most appropriate support to the community.
