Mission Statement

Michigan Green Schools Foundation Ltd was filed as a non profit organization with state of Michigan in November of 2008. We are a group of unpaid volunteers that coordinate the Michigan Green School Program. This is a 20 point educational/environmental set of activities for all Michigan Schools to participate in during an academic year. If they achieve 10 points of the 20 they become an official Michigan Green School. Gov. Jennifer Granholm signs the school certificates, we award the official flag and give school a white pine seedling to plant. We have a web page Michigangreenschools.org to support all the schools and offer new educational/environmental lessons. The above is our mission to support Michigan schools protect Michigan's natural heritage through actual projects and creating good environmental stewards.

Description

We maintain a state website to help Michigan schools become official Michigan Green Schools. We also work to get an official flag, certificate and seedling for each school to plant. We are slowly acquiting equipment for solar demonstrations around Michigan with accopanying lesson plans. We have inaugurated an Eco Reading Project which we hope to expand. We are a information point for schools to find new green lessons as they grow in their respective programs.
