Mission Statement

The Friends of Aransas & Matagorda Island National Wildlife Refuge (FAMI) are dedicated to supporting and assisting the Refuge in it's goal of enhancing wildlife and it's habitat and encouraging compatible wildlife dependent public uses of the Refuge through educational,interpretive, scientific and other appropriate to the Mission of the Refuge.

Description

  • Apply for federal and private grants to be used for specific projects on the Refuge
  • Develop and conduct interpretive tours and workshops.
  • Assist the Refuge in wildlife census and related management projects.
  • Increase public and governmental awareness of the sensitive and unique nature of the Refuge, and their vital roles to both wildlife and the human race.
  • Assist local communities in developing nature-based tourism related to the Refuge.
  • Recruit volunteers to help Refuge staff with variety of projects.
  • Work with local educators and civic groups on the natural history and science of the Refuge.
