VOLUNTEER WITH OUR HOSPICE Hospice supports individuals and families through the end-of-life journey. You can take part in this sacred process as a volunteer with Henry Ford Hospice - South Central Michigan. We are looking for in-home visitor volunteers who are willing to go into a patient's home or care facility once a week to chat, help with light chores, or just be there so they don't feel alone. The focus is companionship or respite, which allows a caregiver to step out for a bit. We only assign volunteers to homes that are safe, and at this time do not allow any hands-on care, such as feeding or dressing. The weekly visits can range from 1-4 hours, with an average of 2 (this is where you get to be flexible), and the day and time is determined by need of the patient/family and your availability. Tasks may include chatting, reading, playing games, washing dishes, making at sandwich, etc. If a patient is sleeping, volunteers are welcome to do a quiet activity. While we are headquartered in Jackson, our service area includes surrounding counties- Calhoun, Hillsdale, Ingham, and Lenawee- and volunteers are needed throughout. Requirements: Commitment to serve; no official amount but we ask a minimum of 60 hours total (from onboarding until no longer being a volunteer; most applicable for students volunteering just a semester), and ideally, 2-4 hours a week Pass a federal background check Negative TB test Up to date immunizations: Tdap, MMR, flu (annual) Onboarding Process: Contact us for an application and interview Background check and health screening (TB, immunizations) Complete hospice training Volunteer alongside our compassionate and talented team Contact us!
