Mission Statement
The Westmoreland Museum of American Art offers a place to share compelling and meaningful cultural experiences that open the door to new ideas, perspectives, and possibilities.
Description
The Westmoreland was established in 1959 through a generous bequest from Mary Marchand Woods, a long-time Greensburg resident who wanted her community to have an important cultural institution. From the early years, an inspirational collection of significant American art was amassed, alongside a strong exhibition and educational program. Currently celebrating our 60 th anniversary, the Westmoreland's collection is primarily the art of Southwest Pennsylvania from 1750-1950. Located in Greensburg, Pennsylvania about 35 east of Pittsburgh, the Westmoreland Museum of American Art features a significant and distinctive collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture and more that describes the heritage of our nation and our region.
