Mission Statement

The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship (WSOS) supports low- and middle-income students pursuing eligible, high-demand majors in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and health care, and encourages recipients to work in Washington state once they complete their degrees.

Description

WSOS has awarded scholarships to over 5,400 students since the program began.

  • 59% of all-time funded scholars are first-generation college students.
  • 57% of all-time funded scholars are female.
  • 58% of the most recent cohort of recipients identified as students of color
  • More than three-quarters of 2015 graduates are employed in their field or seeking an advanced degree.
  • Of graduates working in their field of study, nearly 90% remained in Washington state.
