Description
Founded in 1904 as the Home for Sick and Neglected Babies, Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands is a multi-program non profit incorporated agency administering to the needs of abused children, low-income adults and seniors, adults and children with disabilities, at-risk families and victims of natural disasters. We provide homes, health, spiritual and emotional care as well as out reach services for the community. Our priorities are
child welfare, crisis intervention, services for the elderly, programs for physically and emotionally handicapped individuals, family enrichment, and advocacy of human rights.
Our programs include:
Queen Louise Home for Children; Sister Emma Cottage for Children with Severe Disabilities;Early Head Stary a comprehensive education program for 35 infants and toddlers and 12 pregnant women; Ginger Thomas Home (St. Croix) and Ginger Thomas Home (St. Thomas) for adults with disabilities; LSS Housing which operates 139 units of subsidized housing for low-income senior citizens and for adults with disabilities who are capable of independent living; Lutheran Disaster Response which provides disaster preparedness training for local groups and after disaster recovery; TeenLine, a confidential peer to peer telephone counseling service for teenagers in crisis, and PINNACLE, a multi-Purpose Family Enrichment Program offering counseling and skills development to at-risk families.
