Description

The Alliance for African American Health in Central Texas (Alliance) is a non-profit organization based in Austin, Texas established to address health disparities among African Americans in Central Texas. The Alliance is the outgrowth of a conference held in April 2005 by the Austin/Travis County Health & Human Services Department (HHSD) entitled Health Disparities among African Americans in Central Texas. This conference was the third such event since 2001 conducted by HHSD in an effort to raise awareness about health disparities. The Alliance was formed following the 2005 conference and began functioning as a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization in January 2007. Since its inception, the Alliance has focused on activities to engage communities, raise awareness about health issues, promote education and prevention, and foster professional associations.
