The Ronald McDonald House Denver is looking for professional/experienced musician volunteers to share the gift of music with our families! Open to musicians with a portable instrument looking for a way to share their talent. This opportunity will be available weekly and can be signed up for once or reoccurring depending on your schedule. Shifts are available at both our Denver and Aurora locations. If you are interested in volunteering, please create an account and fill out an application, Musicians must provide their own transportation, set up and break down their instruments, apart from pianists as we have pianos available in both houses. Musicians will be playing in the main lobby of the house with families and staff walking in and out. Volunteers for this opportunity must be 18+ and experienced musicians. Please note: RMHC-Denver does not accept court-ordered community service participants.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Denver (RMHC-Denver) is looking for professional, dedicated, and compassionate individuals for service on its Board of Directors. Since 1979, RMHC-Denver has offered a loving home away from home to families needing to be near their seriously ill or injured children while they are being treated at metropolitan area hospitals. Board of Directors members can serve up to 2 consecutive 3 year terms (as of fall 2022) - likely 3 consecutive 2 year terms starting January 1, 2023. We believe that a great board strengthens the organization it governs and serves. The following items are the core responsibilities of the Board of Directors; Assures that the organization maintains its institutional integrity, stays true to and advances the mission, vision, and values, and focuses on those strategies and resources that are most important to the organization realizing its goals. Develops long-range strategic plans and annual operating and capital budgets that are consistent with the organization’s mission and priorities. Assures the financial soundness and integrity of the organization and the adequacy of its financial resources. Assures that the organization is well led by selecting, evaluating the performance, and setting the fair compensation of the Executive Director. Contributes to advancing the organization’s work and credibility with key constituencies such a McDonald’s partners, hospital and medical partners, and local businesses. Evaluates the effectiveness and impact of the organization’s work. Core Responsibilities for Individual Board Directors: Understands the organization’s mission, policies, programs and needs. Faithfully reviews and understands the organization’s financial statements and annual audit (including management letter). Considers major policy decisions, especially when they involve organizational risks or shifts in direction. Serves as an active advocate and ambassador for the organization by doing such things as giving talks and presentations about the organization, making introductions for the staff leadership in the community, hosting talks or tours alongside staff inside the organization’s facilities, and/or bringing volunteer groups to do projects for the organization or cook meals. Fully engages in identifying, securing, and leverages connections, networks, financial resources, and partnerships necessary to inspire and motivate collective action to help fully achieve the organization’s mission. Helps identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s reputational standing and increase its reach into the local community. Prepares for, attends, and conscientiously participates regularly in Board of Directors meetings. We ask that Board members attend a majority of meetings in person and a minority of meetings by phone/video conferencing. There are typically 7 meetings per year, including a retreat, and 3 social/mission gatherings, including a holiday celebration, at least one opportunity for the Board to serve a meal to families, and/or a social event. Participates fully in one or more standing committee. Annually, makes a personally significant cash contribution to RMHC-Denver and helps to secure at least $2,500 in outside funds. Additionally, a member of the Board Directors: Follows the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions and helps the organization to maintain its nonprofit status and any legal requirements. Signs an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and updates it during the year if necessary, as well as discloses potential conflicts before meeting and actual conflicts during meetings. Maintains confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization. Commits to accessing Board materials, including meeting packets with meeting agendas and organizational documents, such as bylaws, through the BoardEffect portal. Note: Board materials will not be provided via email or hard copy. Commits to maintaining an open line of communication with the Governance Committee and Executive Director in the event life circumstances might change and the member is unable to fulfill the aforementioned responsibilities. Actively learn about nonprofit board leadership and effectiveness to help both the board and RMHC-Denver achieve their goals. Asks good questions and actively participates in a culture of inquiry.
