Heart in Motion strengthens communities through promoting volunteerism and leadership development in youth.

Description

Heart in Motion brings together Bay Area youth, inspiring neighborhood activism and cultivating a passion for community service. Its members come from schools throughout the area, who work together to transform community service from a duty to a rewarding labor of love by serving from their hearts. Working together, our members experience the transformative power and satisfaction of giving back to the community. We provide support to local nonprofits, neighborhood fairs, and athletic events that shine a positive light on our community while providing fundraising opportunities for local and national charities.

For those seeking to deepen their involvement, we offer a Leadership Program, which offers the opportunity to develop new skills in organizational management. We focus on developing character and nurturing officers’ potential, providing a foundation for their future endeavors. Through this rigorous program, interns and officers learn what it takes to be successful in their lives and how to create positive change in the world. Founded in 2010, over 3300 students have been part of Heart in Motion. Collectively we have delivered over 111,376 hours of community service to nonprofits and community events. Our work makes us stronger individuals, builds a stronger community, and creates relationships that will last a lifetime.

Heart in Motion has provided me with countless opportunities to help and serve the community through numerous events and its leadership program after school! The first event I've ever volunteered for was Golden Gate Half, and as a young individual, I was excited and curious to meet new people and help out. It was a hot day, but that didn't stop me from helping and seeing how people enjoyed and had fun at the event! After that, I try to volunteer at every event that they do. Another way that Heart in Motion helps and serves the community is through the leadership youth program that they offer! As a person who also underwent that program, I would say it is rewarding! They taught me valuable hard & soft skills such as teamwork, communication, planning, typing, and coordinating projects, and so much more. This leadership is an open playground for creativity, growth and bonding. I recommend it to all the youths to try it out and give it a shot!

Thank you, Heart in Motion, for providing me with various volunteering and leadership opportunities outside of school. One of my most memorable events was Hot Chocolate. Despite the weather being cold and rainy, it didn't dampen my mood. I really enjoyed serving chocolate and snacks to the runners, as well as eating it myself at the end. Through my many experiences with the organization, I am glad to have gained real-world skills involving communication and online management of spreadsheets, as well as develop new relationships with fellow youth and serve my local community.

Heart In Motion has provided lots of opportunities for me to give back to my community. This organization provides so many fun and engaging events to volunteer at and it has been a blast volunteering with them. One of the most memorable events I've gone to was my first event: Nike Women's Half Marathon. I met so many new friends that I still talk to. It was one of my first experiences volunteering and being able to see the smiles on the participants' faces was very rewarding. I've also grown tremendously from their leadership program. I've gained so much experience with working in a team and communicating in a professional work environment.

Heart in Motion has changed the world of volunteering for me drastically. I use to volunteer just for hours until I started volunteering with them. My favorite memory from HIM was when we had our bonding. We got to eat a lot of good food and throw water balloons at each other. The events they have are also really fun, not like those typical library or boring ones you would only do for credit and hours. I have also met lots of new friends because of this Heart In Motion ❤️.

Heart in Motion has been a major part of my high school life. Before HIM, I probably wouldn't consider volunteering during my free time. One of the perks of volunteering through them is that they track all my hours for me. I joined their internship program and began to volunteer with them as a freshman. Through events, I made a lot of close connections with different people from different schools. I do not regret joining.

I first joined Heart in Motion during my freshman year. In the beginning, I didn't know a lot of people and I was very shy. As I volunteered at more events, I met new people and even gotten closer to some. Heart in Motion is like another family to me. I have also learned some valuable leadership skills, such as communication and teamwork. The first event I volunteered at was the Lafayette Multicultural Night. It was my first experience being in Heart in Motion and it was really fun. I got to interact with many members, kids, and parents. After that event, I have been volunteering ever since:)

Heart in Motion has played a huge impact on my life and continues to do so everyday. Through this organization, I have learned many valuable skills such as working with Google docs and working with other people. I also enjoy volunteering at the events as it provides a wonderful opportunity for me to hang out with my friends outside of school. Everyone in the organization is kind and I have been able to make many new friends.

I joined Heart in Motion as a freshmen in high school and it has been one of the best choices I've made for myself. Seeing the volunteers exude such enthusiasm while volunteering shows that the volunteers are volunteering from their heart. Heart in Motion's mission is to lead the way for youth to be engaged in the community and their passion shine through in how much they care for their volunteers. Everyone is accepted for who they are; there are no other requirements for joining other than to volunteer from your heart. Heart in Motion pushes me to step out of my comfort zone and try things that I would have never thought of trying. I would recommend Heart in Motion to anyone whose goal of volunteering is simply to help others out!

Heart in Motion is an amazing organization that I 100% recommend to anyone interested in volunteering. It’s organized and filled with dedicated people who are willing to show up as early as 5 AM to help. The members are outgoing and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Being a reserved person myself, interacting with people has always been hard, but HIM’s affable aura makes it a lot easier. They’re always enthusiastic, seeking ways to help others, smiling, and creating a warm atmosphere. Joining HIM has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’ve built everlasting friendships with people who have given me unforgettable experiences and memories. HIM gives fun and enjoyable opportunities to help the community with friends from around the Bay Area. HIM isn’t just any other volunteer group; it provides opportunities, is welcoming, professional, and cordial. Through HIM, I’ve been able to make numerous friends, learn about unfamiliar events, and help the community.

The transition into freshman year was tough for me; I didn’t have the best grades, I lacked confidence and was always self-conscious. But joining Heart in Motion changed my life. They focus on their members and offer many volunteering opportunities, everyone would find an event they like. Volunteering with such a structured organization has allowed me to become more outgoing. Interacting with other people was a little scary in the beginning; but once you see everyone's’ smiles and people thanking you for being out there, it makes you feel good about yourself. Now, with the newfound friends I have made through volunteering and their Internship program, I feel so much more confident about myself when it comes to school and work. Even though I started in my freshmen year, I wish I joined this organization earlier!

I’ve never felt more attached to an organization before coming into Heart In Motion. I never had any experience volunteering and I wasn’t familiar with anything but I didn’t have to worry at all because they walked me through every step of the way. Heart In Motion really cares about their volunteers. They spend a lot of time to make sure you are in a shift with your friends, make accommodations to any requests you may have, and make sure you get all the details & information you need before an event. Being in HIM also gave me a sense of reassurance. When volunteering with HIM, I know I’m spending my time productively. As I was volunteering for my first event, the only person I knew was my sister. I’m actually a very shy and quiet person, so I was worried whether or not I could make friends. I realized there was nothing to worry about because everyone was really nice and welcoming towards me. It didn’t take long before I felt comfortable and included in the HIM family.

Heart in Motion is a one of a kind organization and has definitely opened many doors of opportunity for me. I joined Heart in Motion during my freshman year of high school and immediately fell in love with the organization’s warm individuals and welcoming environment. I found volunteering with HIM to be simple and easy. Volunteering with Heart in Motion has provided me with courage to step out of my comfort zone, and interact with different individuals, some of which have since become my close friends. Through my work with HIM, I have long realized that volunteering can be so much more than just a requirement for college applications . By working with other enthusiastic individuals at numerous volunteering events, I have found that giving back to my community can be exciting, fun, and incredibly rewarding. The positive and nurturing environment that Heart in Motion provides its members has allowed me to develop a passion for volunteering and really be able to serve from my heart.

Coming from a small middle school, there was very few people that I knew going into high school. Determined to meet new people and find a place for myself, I tried joining other volunteer groups but none really stood out to me until came Heart in Motion. Though I joined in my sophomore year, I quickly found myself a home with Heart in Motion’s warm and welcoming members. Heart in Motion provides the best service to its members and the events that they support. They always makes sure that its members know where to go, when to go, and exactly what to do to ensure that the event staff and participants are satisfied with the volunteers’ performance. Meanwhile, they see to it that its members are well fed, hydrated and having a good time. If there was one thing I could change in my decision to join Heart in Motion, I would have wished that I had joined earlier. It is great to be a part of an organization that cares so deeply for its members, truly inspiring service from the heart.

Heart in Motion is a great organization. I've been volunteering with them for several years now and in that time, I've met lots of wonderful people, including some of my closest friends. With HIM, volunteering is fun, something to look forward to. They offer so many events and there's a nice variety among them. You could volunteer at the finish line of a marathon one weekend and then at SF Food Bank the next. Heart in Motion also takes care of their volunteers and you can see that through the volunteers’ dedication and enthusiasm. It’s such a pleasure to work alongside them. Whether it be rain or shine, 5AM or 5 PM, you can count on their volunteers to not only be there, but to also be eager to help. Volunteering with Heart in Motion has helped instill within me an appreciation for community service and helping others.

Heart in Motion is literally the place where I’ve met some of the most amazing, inspiring people ever as well as where I pretty much met all of my best friends. This organization joins students from all over the Bay Area at volunteer events and because you aren't volunteering with just those from your own school, but those from a wide range of schools throughout the Bay Area, you always get to meet someone new and someone you probably wouldn't get to talk to on a daily basis. None of us really knew each other before, and we didn’t even go to the same schools, but after working with them at volunteer events, we’ve built a strong friendship between us. Through these volunteer events, I’ve really made “friendships which last a lifetime.” I really want to say that Heart in Motion was kind of a starting point for me to open up to others and start getting involved.

I would most definitely recommend joining Heart In Motion. They are the most organized volunteer organization you can find, and provide a huge range of events to choose from, due to their outstanding reputation among event organizers. I started volunteering as an HIMer in my freshman year in high school, and it's been an amazing experience. I've met so many amazing people, and have learned things about my community that I never would've known of before. Everyone is always filled with charisma, and it's amazing how helping other people can lift your own spirits. Seeing the smiles on the event-goers' faces make all of the hard work worth it, and have made me discover the joys of volunteering. Heart In Motion has become a huge part of my life, and I'll definitely continue to volunteer with them for years to come.
