Mission Statement

Through an interactive curriculum, girls are st4rengthened for active lives of purpose and leadership.

Description

Our goal is for girls in 3 rd through 8 th grade to find and strengthen their inner voice; to be dynamic community leaders; to be active; find strength in their sisterhood (a sense of being 'connected'). Girls will come away from the program with a strong sense of self and will have begun to find their inner voice. It is our hope that participants will: be sensitive and respectful to their community and their environment; celebrate diversity; connect all aspects of mind, body and soul and will have a sense of how to cope with difficult life situations. Through this discovery girls will find strength and will stay away from risky situations.

We are a non-profit organization (pending as of January, 2009) that helps girls, ages 8-12 years old, find their inner voice in order to become strong community leaders. We do this through a curriculum of active games that encourage girls to complete a 5k walk/run event while also teaching basics of yoga. Other modules of our curriculum include: "Being Eco-Conscious", "Effective Conflict Resolution", "Volunteerism", "Eating Healthy: A Life in Moderation", among others. The cornerstone is to develop positive self-esteem so that girls are able to make appropriate decisions that will lead them on a path to a successful, healthy lifestyle.

Specifically, we offer the program once a week for eight weeks for an hour and a half at each meeting. The program is delivered by volunteer coaches who have been personally screened, trained and background checked by the Executive Director.
