Mission Statement

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

Description

Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society.

During the event weekend, teams of people will gather at the Thornton Multipurpose Fields and take turns walking or running the track all night to symbolize there is no finish until we find a cure. This year's event will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 18 with a fabulous Opening Ceremony and will end around 7 a.m. Sunday, July 19 with breakfast and a Closing Ceremony. There will be a Luminaria Ceremony during the evening where we remember our loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer and honor our loved ones that are battling cancer. We will have a DJ all night, live bands in the evening, a silent auction 3‑9 p.m., Famous Dave's BBQ will be providing dinner around 6 p.m., and we will be showing a movie in the park starting around 10 p.m. There are going to be lots of activities for every age.
