Mission Statement

The Spirit of Cleveland is a non-profit organization committed to the ongoing development of educational programs and services that promote and support the hospitality industry for Travel and Tourism in the Cleveland Plus region as well as provide marketing tools and resources to Arts & Culture organizations to raise awareness both within and outside the region.

Description

Shortly after moving into the historic Higbee Building on Public Square, Positively Cleveland (a destination marketing organization promoting business and leisure travel to Cleveland Plus) opened an expansive 3,500 square-foot Visitors Center attached to its office. The Center was laid out by Dennis and Kathleen Coakley Barrie, a duo also responsible for the design of the National Spy Museum and the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage. With a 13-foot by 13-foot map, racks of brochures, computer stations and a 103-inch flat screen monitor flashing regional video highlights of the region, the downtown center is the largest in the region. Knowledgeable travel counselors staff the center and are available to answer questions and give directions, letting travelers in on everything from where to find an interpreter to the location of hidden nighttime hotspots. Much of the center's traffic is international, with travelers coming from 48 different countries. There have also been virtual visitors, with staff replying to hundreds of email, "LiveChat" instant messages and phone requests. The Visitors Center's central location provides convenience to travelers staying downtown or near a Rapid or HealthLine stop. During the summer months, the visitors center extends normal business hours (M-F, 9am-5pm) to assist visitors on the weekends (10am-3pm) and also serves as a pickup and ticketing station for Lolly the Trolley tours. The Center is also a sales point for the Cleveland Plus Pass, a multi-attraction discount pass that saves travelers 30% or more on admission to ten major attractions and valuable offers from retailers, destinations and restaurants.
