Mission Statement

"Start With a Story", a project of the Alameda County Library, delivers story times, free books, and family literacy activities to children, ages 1-16 years old, who visit at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, and at the Glenn Dyer Jail in downtown Oakland.

Description

Volunteers read stories to children, ages 0-8 years, who visiting the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, CA or the Glenn Dyer Jail in downtown Oakland on Saturdays and Sundays, 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. (both jais) and 12-3 p.m. (Glenn Dyer only)

Volunteers also supervise distribution of books to children who visit the jail. We are asking for a minimum time commitment of 2 hours/week (but are, of course, grateful for any time you can offer.)
