To promote the health and quality of life of residents in East Multnomah County through the support and enhancement of parks and recreation services.
Description
The members of People for Parks Oregon East Multnomah County believe that all people deserve opportunities to play and learn. We believe that parks and recreation programs provide a context for social interaction and help enhance the emotional and physical health of our community. We believe that parks and recreation programs help families and individuals have meaningful lives and positive relationships.
People for Parks was developed in 1974 by concerned citizens to improve community parks; it quickly became a vital community partner and built many local park projects as well as supporting park bonds and levies. Years later ... in 2003 we implemented our strategic planning and partnerships that has allowed People for Parks to work alongside residents of East Multnomah County to develop projects and programs. People for Parks has always partnered with the community and have offered support of projects / programs which promote health, education and safety.
People for Parks intends to play a significant role in improving parks and recreation in East Multnomah County. Improvements we intend to work for during the next few years include, but not in order:
Benefits of Parks and Recreation Initiative
Expanded community gardens
Improved after school programs
Expanded summer recreation programs
Expanded youth sports programs
Completion of planned improvements at
local parks currently unfunded by city
resources
Summer youth jobs to improve and
protect parks and natural areas
Parks and Recreation state advocacy
