Mission Statement

The Japan-America Society is the only organization in our state entirely dedicated to building mutual understanding between the peoples of Japan and Washington. We are the largest international non-profit membership organization in the State of Washington with a long history which dates back to the 1920's. Every year the Society presents a broad range of public affairs and business programs, cultural programs, cultural prgrams, and educational outreach projects, including the Japan in the Schools program.

Description

Japan in the Schools prgram starts in 1994. Each year, more than 2,500 students in over 100 classrooms have participated in the program.

Currently, the program consists of two components:Japan in a Suitcase for elementary school classes and Japanese Language and Culture Visits for high school students.

Volunteers will visit either way with some materials in a suitcase and visit classrooms. They will teach Japanese and Japanese culture.
