QUICK OVERVIEW K9 Youth Alliance (K9YA) is a small non-profit that is dedicated to empowering kids from under-resourced communities and helping abandoned dogs find loving homes. We are currently looking to increase our capacity to serve by launching an ambitious grant funding campaign. We will need 1-2 volunteers to help us reach our goals. IMPACT The grant proposal volunteer will assist in securing vital funding to support K9 Youth Alliance's programs. Each program serves 6-15 young people and 6-12 abandoned shelter dogs. VOLUNTEER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES This is a virtual, open-ended position. Days and times of work are flexible. Volunteers should expect to devote 5-10 hours per month. K9YA staff will provide the volunteer with a detailed orientation to the roles and responsibilities and will provide source material including prior grants to assist the volunteer in grant proposal development. K9YA staff will identify grant funding opportunities and will also consider opportunities the volunteer has identified if any. The volunteer will help develop and prepare all elements of the grant proposal (e.g., including letters of inquiry, narrative elements of the proposal, budget preparation), in advance of submission deadlines. The position works directly with the chair of the board's development committee and the executive director. REQUIREMENTS The ideal candidate will work well without supervision, have proficiency with persuasive grant writing, coordinate all aspects of the grant proposal, and will have excellent people skills. Experience with grant writing for nonprofits that serve youth and/or animals is a plus. ACCESSIBILITY The volunteer will edit/create documents on their device and should have ready access to email. Fluency with Dropbox and Google Drive for document sharing is encouraged. QUESTIONS? Overview K9 Youth Alliance is a local nonprofit that seeks to enrich the lives of underserved youth while they help prepare abandoned dogs for forever homes. We're currently seeking people ages 21 and up to mentor student-dog teams our upcoming program! Impact Each 3-week K9 Youth Alliance program empowers 6-7 young people and 7-10 shelter dogs as they learn and develop important life skills together. Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities Arrive at the site early to help set up, meet with staff and handle an assigned dog Provide support and encouragement to your assigned student-dog team as they are taught by our professional dog trainer and educational facilitator Help with clean up and dog handling, debrief with staff after the program ends Assist the program at the Program Director , Educational Facilitator & Dog Training Instructors' discretion Requirements Must be 21, pass a criminal background check, be able to handle dogs of all sizes and energy levels, and be able to be active for 3 hours at a time. Impact Enrich the lives of youth from under resourced communities and shelter dogs by supporting our 3-week, intensive programs and helping us build our capacity to serve. Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities K9 Youth Alliance is a small nonprofit with a working board, meaning our board members roll up their sleeves and do much of the work of the organization. Board members meet once monthly (via Zoom, with some in person meetings returning), participate in program once a year, participate in committees and fundraising events, and are vital to our success! Board members also commit to a personal financial contribution and a fundraising minimum. Requirements Responsible, enthusiastic individual who is a good communicator and a team player. We are especially interested in bringing on individuals who represent the communities we serve. Experience with nonprofit governance, prior board membership, nonprofit fundraising and marketing a plus.
