Mission Statement
Matumaini Counseling is a nonprofit organization that empowers black and other underserved youth by providing the support and services they deserve. Matumaini programs are based on the belief that each individual is unique, important, and capable of growth and will overcome obstacles more readily when aided by skilled professionals in an atmosphere of caring, support, and respect. Matumaini’s professionals are mindful and sensitive to how personal experiences, circumstances and personal beliefs shape and influence their clients’ lives.
Description
Matumaini Counseling provides in-depth, "wrap-around" mental health counseling with clients and those who care about them. "Wrap-around" service coordinates treatment planning with community organizations, schools, social services agencies and criminal justice agencies. It provides a range of counseling modalities, such as art therapy, recreational therapy, individual and group therapy, and family therapy. It provides workshops and summer camps on athletics, community building, and alternatives to youth gang violence.
