Mission Statement
Tulane Canal Neighborhood Development Corporation (TCNDC) is a non-profit organization that seeks to maintain the diversity and vibrancy of the Tulane Canal and Treme neighborhoods through affordable home ownership and community development. In recognition of institutional racism and poverty, TCNDC envisions a neighborhood where all residents have access to stable, affordable housing thereby building a more equitable community. TCNDC is a small team with three main programs: 1) Our one-on-one Homebuyer Counseling and mortgage readiness program 2) Affordable Housing Development, and 3) Rebuild the Family Home, which helps existing homeowners stay in their homes to prevent displacement and gentrification.
Description
The Tulane/Canal Neighborhood Development Corporation was founded in 2001 to address the needs of the Tulane/Canal neighborhood. Community members met for months to determine the greatest need of the neighborhood: more homeownership opportunities because over 85% of the Tulane/Canal neighborhood are renters.
Since 2001 T/CNDC has built and rehabbed 30 safe, healthy and affordable homes for low to moderate income families. We also provide financial literacy training and are involved in the Tulane Canal Neighborhood Association.
