Kaua`i Habitat for Humanity Celebrates 100th Home Built on Kaua`i - Vows 100 More
Ele`ele, HI; February 5, 2009 -- Kaua`i Habitat for Humanity celebrated the completion of its 100th home at a dedication ceremony Thursday, February 5, 2009, in Ele`ele and vowed to build the next 100 homes in half the time.
Stephen Spears, Executive Director, said "The need for affordable homes on Kaua`i is as great as ever. There are over 1,300 Kaua`i residents interested in partnering with us to build a house they can afford." A recent Habitat offering to build 6 homes on leased land in Hanapepe attracted several hundred interested families and dozens of applications. "It's clear to everyone that Kaua`i needs more affordable homes built," Spears added. "We pledge to do our part in resolving Kauai's affordable hosing crisis by building our next 100 homes in half the time it took to build the first 100. The economic conditions on Kaua'i demand that we do no less."
