The mission of the Headwaters at Incarnate Word, Inc. is to preserve, restore and celebrate the rich natural, cultural, historical, spiritual and educational values of the headwaters of the San Antonio River, especially within the 53-acre Headwaters Sanctuary, and to cultivate an ecological ethic embracing environmentally responsible behavior and actions. The Headwaters at Incarnate Word, Inc. is a non-profit sponsored Earth care ministry of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word.

The 53-acre Headwaters Sanctuary was established by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 2008. It includes the historic source of the San Antonio River (Blue Hole) and acres of undeveloped forest in need of ecological restoration. It is a place of sanctuary for nature and spirit, open to all who respect its sanctity and historic, natural and cultural values.
We clear brush, pick up trash, maintain trails and facilities, remove invasive species, replant natives, beautify this historic and culturally sensitive landscape. And we live for our volunteers!
