The Santa Monica Conservancy works to promote widespread understanding and appreciation of the cultural, social, economic and environmentyal benefits of historic preservation. Through educational programs, assistance and advocacy, the Conservancy reinforces the importance of preserving the histor5ic resources of Santa Monica's unique urban landscape.

Description

The City of Santa Monica has selected the Santa Monica Conservancy as a partner in setting up a docent-guided tour program for the Annenberg Community Beach House at 415 pacific Coast Highway. One hour tours will be offered both on weekends and weekdays beginning in April. In the fall and winter, the tour schedule will be reduced. Docents will be asked to commit eight hours a month for the spring and summer of 2009.

Docent training classes will be offered on four Saturdays beginning March 7, with practice tours in April. Written material will be provided to supplement class lectures. While an outline of key talking points will be provided, there will not be a docent script to memorize. Instead, each volunteer will put together his/her own narration, based upon the training classes, written material, and practice tours.
