Mission Statement

The Community Empowerment Organization (CEO) assists in equipping local communities with tools to engage in political and social activism by providing education and service through a dedicated volunteer base.

Description

The Community Empowerment Organization (CEO) is a grassroots organization committed to serving traditionally underserved members of the Tallahassee community by providing non-partisan voter education tools as well as innovative methods of addressing the problems facing our neighborhoods. CEO provides community members opportunities to serve and create powerful alliances within our community.

The Community Empowerment Organization additionally operates as a project of The League of Young Voters. Nationally, the League of Young Voters (LYV) is the undercurrent for a large number of affiliate-organizations targeting voters age 18 to 35, as well as racially and socially marginalized people around the country. With the training, motivation and funding provided by the League, affiliates host discussions, stage direct action (i.e. marches), produce surveys, voter guides and even pass legislation within their regions. For more information on the great work that the League of Young Voters is doing nationally, visit theleague.com

Locally, CEO is committed to maintaining the non-partisanship of information we distribute to preserve the right of choice among our constituents. We believe that the young voter population is a vibrant and untapped political force, but also see the importance of waking the "sleeping giant." This is the massive number of people in our community (not just youth) that are passed over and, at times, unaware of elections, candidates and legislation that will directly affect them.

Would you recommend Community Empowerment Organization?

by Andrea G. from FL (Administrator for this Organization) (March 30, 2009)
I volunteered with CEO to pass out non-partisan information to low-income neighborhoods. It was such a great experience to see how grateful the people were to get the information and how excited they were to be better equipped for the election! The CEO members were also great to work with and it was easy to tell how much they cared for those neighborhoods. I'm not sure what events or things they may have coming up but I would definitely recommend checking them out! www.ceotallahassee.com
