Mission Statement

The mission of the RELIEF NURSERY of Collin County is to prevent the cycle of child abuse and neglect through early intervention that focuses on building successful and resilient children, strengthening parents and preserving families. We serve multi-stressed families with young children, who are at-risk for child abuse and neglect.

Description

The Relief Nursery was launched in Eugene, Oregon, 30 years ago. It was created by members of the Junior League in that community, who saw a need that was unmet by existing public and private programs. Over the course of three decades, the Relief Nursery has grown to include 8 primary sites, and is currently serving over 1,200 families. The Relief Nursery program is being piloted in two Texas locations, Austin and Collin County, at the request of and with the support of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Once fully operational, the Relief Nursery will provide the following services to individuals and families in Collin County:

  • Therapeutic childcare
  • Respite care
  • Play therapy
  • Individual skills development
  • Alcohol and drug recovery support services
  • Parent education
  • Home visits
  • Mental health assessments
  • Counseling for children and families
Relief Nursery of Collin County will complement the programs currently in place to cost-effectively help the most vulnerable children in our community.
