Virtual Opportunity
Join us virtually for your first 2 hours of volunteerism with wish world! During this virtual orientation session, you'll learn about our organization mission, vision, values and how you can bring wishes to life for local children battling critical illnesses. We need your helping hands and your caring hearts to reach children across the Texas Gulf Coast and state of Louisiana. We cannot make wishes come true with you! How to Become a Wish Granter: After this orientation you will be asked to: 1. Complete an application and sign our Conflict of Interest & Ethics Statement. You will receive these materials after your orientation. Make-A-Wish policy requires that all paperwork is completed and returned to the Make-A-Wish office within 90 days. 2. Complete a background check. Background checks are required for all volunteers; there is no cost to approved volunteers for this screening. 3. Start Granting Wishes and Earn Your Own Apprentice Wish Granting Wand! We will assign you your first wish to get the ball rolling, and you will be paired with a Mentor Wish Granter to help you as well. After your first wish, you will be able to sign up for wishes online, and we ask that you sign up for at least 4 wishes every year. For each wish you will meet with the Wish Child and their family to help determine the child’s most heartfelt wish ideas while planning special Wish Boosts along their Wish Journey. Wish Granters work in teams of two alongside Make-A-Wish staff to ensure every eligible child’s wish comes true. Time commitment varies, depending on the type of wish and number of wishes you are involved with (maximum 10 simultaneously). The wish interview and celebration can be scheduled for any time that is most convenient for you and the wish family. There is not a requirement to be available at a certain time of day/week. We are looking for volunteers who can make a long-term commitment (minimum of 3 years). If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana Volunteer Manager and fellow wish granting volunteer, Nikki Eliason at neliason@texgulf.wish.org.

Organization Information
Mission Statement
Together we create life-changing wishes for children battling critical illnesses.
Description
We are on a quest to bring every eligible child’s wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. This improves their quality of life and produces better health outcomes. A wish transforms the lives of children, their families, volunteers, supporters, medical professionals, and entire communities.
