The mission of the J. Lewis Crozer Public Library is to provide library services for all citizens at every stage of life, serving the enrichment reading needs of preschoolers through senior citizens. It serves the basic information needs of all residents of the City of Chester and the surrounding communities.
The J. Lewis Crozer Library is a non-profit public library that has been in operation for 84 years. The library's staff of 11 serves the Chester population of 36,800 and its surrounding communities.
In addition to regular circulation and reference services, the library presently conducts various programs to fulfill the educational, recreational, and enrichment needs of its community, including weekly children's storytimes, computer literacy classes, periodic family art classes, and a knitting and crocheting club. Special events throughout the year supplement regular library programs, such as performers and speakers for Black History Month and various workshops on health issues, historical events, and the performing arts. Each summer, the library presents a Summer Reading Club featuring special events and prizes for children and teens to encourage increased literacy and love of reading during the summer months.
