    Services and Programs

    • Pet Adoptions: As well as working to create lifelong relationships between people and pets, the Humane Society places hundreds of dogs, cats and other furry friends into loving homes each year where they will receive quality, stable lifelong care.
    • Shelter for Unwanted Animals: We are the only Kearney-area shelter that takes in any kind of domesticated small animal, ranging from dogs to snakes to ferrets. Each pet is evaluated for health and temperament. If it is adoptable, it is placed into our adoption center. There is no set time limit as to how long we keep an animal.
    • Animal Foster Services: To prepare for placement in a permanent home, some pets require foster care, which helps to adjust them to family life. Volunteers in our foster program take pets into their homes for a specified period of time, to develop family skills, provide ongoing socialization and prepare the pets for adoption.
    • Lost and Found Program: The Animal Shelter can work with you to find your lost pet. We file lost-and-found reports and check these reports when we take in stray animals.
