Mission Statement

Literacy Volunteers of South Central Massachusetts (LV-SCMA) is committed to providing free literacy assistance to adult residents of Southern Worcester County; in the context of respect, enrichment and sensitivity to the needs of adult learners. LV-SCMA is an accredited affiliate of Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts

Established in 1975, Literacy Volunteers of South Central Massachusetts (LV-SCMA) trains volunteer tutors to provide free, confidential and individualized tutoring in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Our organization is able to reach people who may not ordinarily have the opportunity to attend classes due to scheduling, childcare, transportation, lack of funds or other common issues. Student-centered, one-to-one, individualized attention allows our students to attain a variety of goals, working at their own pace. Many students have gone on to successful careers in various fields.

Literacy Volunteers has been made possible through the work of dedicated volunteers and generous sponsors such as the United Way. Becoming part of this program has not only changed the lives of our students, but also the volunteers. Help us to keep this tradition alive and to further serve our community's needs.
