Mission Statement

The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health is devoted exclusively to promoting, protecting, and sustaining the health of children, with a focus on San Mateo and Santa Clara counties in Northern California. Recognizing that no single strategy can address the diverse health needs of children, the Foundation pursues its mission through three distinct yet complementary programs:

  • Fundraising for Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and the pediatric programs at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

  • Grantmaking to promote the health and well being of children through partnerships with community organizations in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.

  • Public Information and Education to raise awareness about the state of children's health.

Description

The Foundation, an independent public charity, is named for Lucile Salter Packard (1914-1987), in honor of her lifelong commitment to the well being of children.

Mrs. Packard and her husband, David (1912-1996), cofounder of Hewlett Packard Company, were the driving forces behind the development of Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, from which the independent Foundation evolved.

The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health was established in 1996, after the consolidation of the previously independent Packard Children's Hospital with the adult hospital and clinics of the Stanford University Medical Center.
