1000 Girls, 1000 Futures⦆is an⦆all-virtual mentoring program is designed to engage and inspire girls aged 13 to 19 to study STEM fields and pursue STEM careers. The program pairs successful female STEM professionals with girls around the world, to act as role models and \"virtual mentors.\" Mentors will guide participants through programming that is tailored to the participant's geography and interest area, all facilitated through an innovative and accessible learning platform. The goals of the program are:

--To inspire girls from communities around the world to pursue STEM careers⦆

-- Help girls to develop confidence-building critical competencies in communications, leadership and critical thinking


Qualified mentors for 1000 Girls, 1000 Futures are:⦆

-- Women working in a STEM-related field, or pursuing a PhD or higher in a STEM-related field⦆

-- Having previous experience as a formal or informal mentor to youth⦆

--Comfortable communicating and reading in English⦆

-- Able to access at least one communication device with internet capabilities⦆

-- Passionate about engaging and inspiring girls to pursue studies and careers in STEM


How are mentees selected?⦆

-- Student participants are referred to 1000 Girls, 1000 Futures through a network of educational and nonprofit organizations spread around the world. All of the mentees are girls aged 13-19, currently attending high school (or equivalent). For the 2016-2017 year, we will also be selecting a portion of our mentees based off of an open application process.


How much time is involved?

--If selected as a Mentor, you will be asked to complete 3-5 hours of virtual training on Youth Development techniques and the use of our online mentoring platform. Mentors must also commit to bi-weekly check-ins with their mentee during the program year (September to August).


Recruiting and Program Timelines:

--June: Mentor application opens⦆

--July 15: Application deadline⦆

--June-August: Mentor interviews, background checks, and selection⦆

-- September-October: Mentor training sessions, Mentee selections⦆

--October-November: Program launch
