Washtenaw Inner City Outings (ICO) is a community outreach program of the Sierra
Club providing opportunities to explore, enjoy and protect the natural world to youth living in public housing. Since 1999, the Washtenaw ICO program has been serving Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. ICO believes that no child should be left inside and that all children should have access to the outdoors. By offering wilderness outings to at risk youth we help them develop an appreciation for the environment and the need to preserve our planet.Washtenaw ICO volunteers work with community centers, churches and youth groups to identify participants. ICO provides the equipment, planning and trained leaders for the wilderness outings. Our outings include activities such as day hikes, canoeing, fishing, backpacking, snowshoeing, bicycling, horseback riding, and skiing. Washtenaw ICO needs you to share your love and knowledge of the outdoors with our kids!Washtenaw ICO also has leadership positions available including, training coordinator, volunteer coordinator, certified outing leader and co-chair.
