Mission Statement

LIFE Center for Independent Living's mission is to provide advocacy and services to people with disabilities in DeWitt, Ford, Livingston, and McLean counties in Illinois. We provide these services to people with all disabilities of all ages.

Description

LIFE Center for Independent Living's four core services are advocacy, independent living skills training, information and referral, and peer mentoring. In addition, we have programs to move people with disabilities from nursing homes back into the community, offer a referral service for personal assistants (personal care attendants), vision services for seniors over 55, educational advocacy, demonstration or loan of durable medical equipment or assistive technology, and teaching self-advocacy skills.

LIFE Center for Independent Living has been in existence since 1985. It is one of 23 centers in the State of Illinois; one of hundreds nationally. Centers for Independent Living are non-residential, non-profit organizations which are operated and controlled by a 51% majority or more of people with a variety of disabilities. LIFE Center has a staff of 9 full time and 3 part time people which work out of offices in Bloomington and Pontiac.
