Mission Statement

Downtown South Orange is continuing on its path of revitalization, and Main Street South Orange is proud to be an active participant. For newcomers, Main Street South Orange (MSSO) is a non-profit, community-based volunteer organization working to revitalize our downtown. We work under the umbrella of Main Street New Jersey , and the Main Street Center established by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Designated in 1991, MSSO is the longest-operating Main Street community in New Jersey.

Businesses continue to open or expand within the Village, and new, exciting stores are on the way. With the ongoing efforts of MSSO, SOPAC, The Baird, Dreamcatcher, and the Seton Hall University Arts Council, South Orange is quickly becoming a premier arts destination.

Description

Throughout the year, Main Street South Orange hosts a full array of promotions and events for the South Orange community, including Celebrate South Orange, the Farmer's Market, Holiday Open House, and a number of seasonal festivals and business promotions.

MSSO is also actively involved in the rebirth and redesign of our downtown merchants. Bringing in fresh merchants with fresh ideas and a new look not only adds to the appeal of our community, but also to our property values and the convenience of services that we can receive downtown.

Take a chance to get involved! We have on-going board opportunities, as well as membership in the Promotions, Design, Economic Development, and Organizational Committees.
