The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Our services include professional clothing for job interviews and work, a Career Center that provides help with resumes, interview skills and job search, and two job retention programs, our Professional Women’s Group and HOPE, where we provide monthly workshops, mentors and other resources to help clients maintain their jobs and build careers.
- Dress for Success was founded in New York City in 1997. There are now over 140 affiliates in 19 countries. Together we serve more than 65,000 clients a year. The Oregon Affiliate opened its door in February 1999.
- We help over 1,500 women a year, and have served almost 20,000 women in the last 17 years. Clients must be referred by one of over 100 social services agencies that include women shelters, job training programs and rehabilitation programs, including agencies like Worksource, Step to Success Programs and Goodwill Job Connections.
- 85% of the women we serve are single mothers. They are unemployed, low-income women who face adversities such as domestic abuse, low self-esteem, prior incarceration, depression, low education levels, and lack of work experience.
- All program services are delivered by a core of over 600 dedicated volunteers.
