Mission Statement
The Flower City Down Syndrome Network, Inc., is a New York State not-for-profit corporation that provides education, support and opportunities to people who have Down syndrome and their families in the Greater Rochester Area.
Our Objectives are:
· To provide support and encouragement to persons with Down syndrome and their families.
· To provide current information on Down syndrome to families and professionals.
· To provide information on educational programs, community services and other organizations available for people with Down syndrome and their families.
· To work with other support groups and organizations to enhance the quality of life for all persons with developmental disabilities.
Description
The FCDSN provides both support and information to parents and family members of newly diagnosed infants with Down syndrome through our Birth Packets and the Welcome to Holland meeting series.
Speakers on topics for older children, teens, and adults are sponsored throughout the year. The FCDSN sponsors Social Groups in four different age clusters: B irth to 6 years, 7 to 12 years, 12 to 21 years, and Adult.
Cash Reimbursement programs are available to encourage social and recreational activities in the community . The FCDSN offers a Scholarship reimbursement program, Library Reimbursement program, and Conference Reimbursements for members.
We are also partners with the Public Library system and provide relevant materials each year to keep their materials up to date.
Two Membership Appreciation Events are scheduled each year; one in the summer and one in December.
The FCDSN Newsletter is published six times per year. It provides members, agencies and affiliates with information about the group, community resources, social activities, local and regional conferences , and articles written by professionals and members on events and topics of interest.
