The mission of Shelter from the Storm Ministries of Sun Prairie is to provide relief, rehabilitation and development through: SHELTER: Finding housing for those facing homelessness TRAINING: Teaching life skills leading to independence OPPORTUNITY: Providing a network of community resources RELATIONSHIP: Connecting with God, self, others and creation MENTORING: Modeling with compassion and accountability SUPPORT: Encouraging through prayer, listening and leadership

Description

In the winter of 2011, a group of people, representing five different churches, was made aware of the fact that Sun Prairie School District had registered over 70 homeless children into their schools. Our group, Shelter from the Storm Ministries, has been meeting for almost two years to seek the will of God to connect resources to this growing problem. As we walk next to those facing homelessness, we realize the challenges of finding housing and other struggles. We also realize that through mentoring and teaching, life skills can be learned and second chances are possible.
