Description

Students With Ambition Go (SWAG) To College was established in 2015 as a mentoring non-profit to help first-generation students succeed in college and their early careers. In our first year of operations, SWAG has grown to: Serve over 200 students from 30 high schools across the nation Manage over 200 college mentors participating from 55 colleges across the US Develop an academic advisory board of professors from Rice, Harvard, and MIT SWAG’s core program pairs underserved high school students with college students from similar backgrounds, and provides month-by-month timelines to guide students from their freshman year of high school all the way through to college admissions. College students that serve as mentors to high school students in SWAG’s core program are invited to participate in the SWAG Young Professionals program as mentees. The SWAG Young Professionals program pairs up first generation college students with young professionals from similar academic backgrounds and interests. The program enables young professionals to volunteer on a flexible schedule by leveraging video and messaging capabilities on Slack. This model allows us to pair our students with the best fit mentors, regardless of location, and give students the best possible support during the school year.
