Mission Statement

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research and education, and to reaching out to people with mood disorders and those impacted by suicide.

The AFSP-Central Florida Chapter proudly serves eight counties: Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia.

Description

We are a group of individuals committed to bringing awareness to the enormity of suicide in our community. Many of our members have experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide. After completing our own grieving process, we desire to reach out to others to make a difference.

We do this by:

  • Facilitating educational presentations on mental health conditions and suicide to groups
  • Hosting an annual Survivors of Suicide Day Conference on the Saturday before Thanksgiving
  • Hosting an annual Out of the Darkness Community 5K Walk/Run on the second Saturday of February
