Mission Statement

The purpose of the Vista Band and Pageantry Corps is to provide quality music and dance instruction for all students who are interested in participating and to provide varied performance opportunities that inspire the participants to reach their highest potential and to share their passion for music and the arts.

Description

The Vista High School Marching Band is one of the premiere 5A bands in all of California. Since 1972, the Vista High School Regimental Band and Pageantry Corps have fostered excellence in music, dance and performance. Ralph Ewell became instrumental music director at Vista High School 2009. He received his Bachelor’s of Music Education degree from Indiana University and his Master’s of Music Education from the Hartt Conservatory. In his over thirty year career, he has taught in Connecticut, Indiana, Switzerland and California. His high school marching bands have won several state championships, and his concert bands have received national recognition with notable concert performances at Carnegie Hall, the White House and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Mr. Ewell’s awards include the 1997 Teacher of the Year at Victor Valley High School, the 2003 Teacher Tribute Award from Stanford University, and the 2002 National Band Association’s Award for Excellence. He studied saxophone with Eugene Rousseau, Ken Radnofsky, Larry Teal and David Pituch. His conducting teachers were Stan DeRushna, Ray Cramer and Leonard Benstein.
